England’s men’s team will initiate their 2028 European Championship adventure at the Manchester City’s stadium, assuming they secure the relatively straightforward entry for a tournament staged throughout most of the United Kingdom and the Irish Republic.

City’s stadium has not staged an English men’s match since May 2016, when the Turkish team were defeated 2-1 in a warm-up game, but is highly likely to host the England side for their inaugural game on June 10, 2028.

England are scheduled to play their final two group matches at Wembley, but, in the event of winning the preliminary round, their knockout stage opener would be held at the Newcastle stadium. Placing second would mean starting the elimination stage at Everton’s ground.

Championship Launch and Rally

The championship was inaugurated at an gathering in Piccadilly Circus on the previous evening. Key representatives from Uefa and the host football associations were barracked as they approached the venue by about 50 protesters, who demanded the Israeli team to be expelled from global football because of the situation in Gaza.

Banners were displayed with slogans saying “Show Israel the red card” and “You are complicit”, while activists shouted: “Kick Israel out.”

Tournament Fixture List

The opening game of the tournament will be held at the the national stadium of Wales in Cardiff, on June 9, 2028, a game that will include the Welsh team if they make it.

Wembley will host the two semi-final matches and the championship match, which will be staged on July 9, 2028 with a commencement at 5:00 PM.

It is expected that an afternoon start, which will also be adopted for UEFA Champions League finals from the following campaign, will appeal to families and help connect with a wider spectrum of fans.

Host Nations

The Republic of Ireland are due to play their opening match at the Dublin stadium and the Tartan Army would follow suit at Glasgow’s Hampden Park.

Each host nation’s squad will participate in the preliminary stage; two automatic spots will be set aside for any that fail to qualify for Euro 2028 through the qualification path.

Locations and Elimination Phase

The Birmingham venue and Spurs’ ground round out the event’s nine venues. Every stadium will hold at least one playoff fixture, with the quarter-finals held at each country’s national stadium.

The qualifying draw will be conducted in the Northern Irish capital, which was excluded as a host city last year when it was revealed Casement Park could not be upgraded in time, on a date in late 2026.
